  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 21, 2015 - Williamsburg Northside School located in the Northside Area of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York City, is the hosting venue for "The Wonder of Learning: The Hundred Languages of Children"; an exhibit of the innovative educational philosophy and programs for preschool and elementary school students in the town of Reggio Emilia, Italy.

The exhibition is being held at the school premises in Brooklyn, NYC from January 15, 2015 through May 15, 2015 and is open to the general public on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 pm. A private group visit can also be scheduled upon request.

Williamsburg Northside Schools are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to education first established in the town of the same name in Italy after World War II. The distinctive approach to elementary education was led by Loris Malaguzzi and is centered on constructing a flexible curriculum developed upon and guided by each child's unique interests and ideas. The approach involves engaging children in long-term independent and collaborative projects inspired by the child's curiosities. The key idea behind the Reggio philosophy is to engage the child in meaningful learning guided by their interests.

The Reggio Emilia exhibit has been touring the world since 1987 and has served to inspire government and business leaders, educators, artists, families and communities to acknowledge each child's unlimited potential and innate capabilities.

"The Wonder of Learning" exhibit is a 7,000 square-foot presentation of the work of children and teachers at the Reggio Emilia schools in Italy. The exhibit is composed of six sections and a variety of media including three-dimensional objects, videos, booklets, audio recordings and children's work.

This exhibit is being hosted by Teaching Beyond the Square, New York City Encounters with Reggio Emilia (NYCERE) and Beginnings Nursery School. Teaching Beyond the Square is an educational non-profit organization committed to working with teachers in the US and abroad to enable a greater understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach and other educational approaches. NYCERE is a group of individuals from various schools and colleges across NYC that has been organizing the exhibit and professional development initiatives in New York City in 2015.

Williamsburg Northside Schools have three campuses; the infant and toddler center, the preschool and the lower school, all located within walking distance in the vibrant neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in NYC. The schools strive to incorporate children's interests into the flexible curricula so as to encourage the development of individualistic contributors to society who can think, reason and analyze things and have an earnest love for learning.
