  • (1888PressRelease) July 08, 2010 - April saw Wigwam Holidays take a journey up to the Highlands of Scotland to arrive at Acharn Farm, former home to the historic James of the Glen who makes a cameo appearance in Robert Lois Stevenson's 'Kidnapped'. Acharn farm was restored 12 years ago by owner Corrine Allward who describes it as "the perfect quiet little place". And it really is! Nestled in the rural west coast Scottish highlands near the little village of Duror by Appin, Acharn Farm is about half way between Oban, the gateway to the islands, and Scotland's outdoor capital, Fortwilliam. This makes it the ideal place to set up camp and explore one of the country's most scenic areas and sample all that this part of Scotland has to offer.

Corrine first found out about Wigwam Holidays through staying in a wigwam® herself at another Wigwam Holidays site. "I hadn't had a proper holiday in years" she explains "and I love camping and the freedom it gives you. I decided to head over to Skye for a camping trip and that was where I first saw the wigwams® at Portnalong wigwam site". Corrine was so impressed with the wigwam® camping experience that she now has two 11ft wigwams® of her very own. Acharn Farm is mainly a working sheep farm "although there are a couple of cows and some hens too" explains Corrine, "and of course Betty the lamb". Having the wigwams® now means that Corrine has been able to diversify her sheep farm and is so far very happy with the result "they look very nice up here on the farm and we've been having enquiries about them already" she said.

Acharn Farm Wigwams® are the perfect place to enjoy the peace and freedom of the countryside in an area which boasts some of the country's most spectacular scenery. The farm itself is nestled in a beautifully secluded rural spot set in a woodland clearing next to a river where there are plenty of forest walks as well as cycle tracks nearby. For those who enjoy winter sports, the Nevis Range Ski Resort and Glencoe Ski Centre are also not far away meaning that there is something for everyone no matter what time of year.

Since the restoration of Acharn Farm 12 years ago, the old cow byre has more recently had a makeover converting its interior into a kitchen, dining and shower unit whilst maintaining the original rustic feel to its exterior walls. "This makes it almost seem like the Tardis" jokes Corrine and indeed, from viewing its beautifully rustic exterior you would be hard pushed to believe that inside was so modern and fresh. Alongside the fact that each wigwam is heated, insulated, double glazed and fitted out with sleeping platforms, Acharn Farm Wigwams® offer the most comfortable and hassle-free way to camp and are the perfect way to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It really is "the perfect quiet little place".
