  • Oakland, CA (1888PressRelease) March 05, 2013 - Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP Partner Leonard E. Marquez has been selected by the San Francisco Business Times for inclusion on its annual "40 Under Forty" list for 2013. This distinction highlights business leaders 39 years old or younger who are building the Bay Area's future by making significant contributions to their industries, their companies and/or to their communities.

"Leonard is not only seen as a leader to his clients and within the firm, but also to the East Bay legal community as a whole through his many community involvements," said Daniel Rappaport, managing partner of Wendel Rosen. "He is a role model to all of us at the firm, and we congratulate him on this honor."

As a litigator at Wendel Rosen, Marquez's practice extends to commercial leasing disputes, business torts and contract litigation. He assists commercial landlords in complex lease disputes. Marquez also advises tenants, including retail and restaurant tenants, regarding lease and other commercial disputes.

Outside the office, Marquez is actively involved with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Contra Costa County, serving on the Board of Directors as Board secretary and as a member of the Executive Committee. Marquez was named 2011 Director of the Year by the Chamber.

Marquez is also the current Board president of the Donald P. McCullum Youth Court (MYC), which functions as an alternative to the juvenile justice system and serves approximately 400 Alameda County youth offenders every year. Last year, he helped guide the organization through a difficult economic transition, in which it partnered with another California non-profit to ensure that it could remain open.

Marquez is a member of the Alameda and Contra Costa County Bar Associations. As part of the Litigation Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, he is a pro bono instructor in the Civil Litigation Pro Per Clinic, a monthly free clinic to educate those community members representing themselves in litigation.
