  • (1888PressRelease) August 07, 2011 - Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai has formed an alliance with Curtin Business School, a part of Curtin University of Technology, Perth Western Australia to facilitate mutual cooperation in the field of educational research. The partnership will open new vistas of cooperation in the field of education and research and promote contribution to increased international cooperation between Australia & India.

    Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Institute along with Prof. David Wood, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Curtin University signed the MoU in presence of Mr. Steve Waters, Consul General of Australia. Ms.Avryil Latin, Deputy Consul General of Australia, Mr Patrick Kearins, Trade Commissioner -Western India Consul (Commercial) Mr Peter Forby,Regional Director-Western Australia Trade office and Mr Jamal Qureshi,South Asia regional Marketing manager-Perth Education City , faculty , students from Welingkar Institute and other leading personalities from the academia & industry also attended the function.

    Speaking at the occasion, Prof.Dr.Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar Institute said, "This MOU with Curtin University will facilitate exchange of students and faculty members on reciprocal basis and help conduct and organize cultural projects, study tours and opportunities to conduct joint research projects in emerging fields. It will also offer new avenues for our students to study in an international environment I am confident that our association will accomplish a balanced and broad based cooperation not only between the two institutes but also between two countries in various areas of mutual interest."

    Professor David Wood, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Curtin University Presented his perspective on 'Global Education', "We have are over 15,000 students from 70 countries studying undergraduate and postgraduate business courses in seven verticals. With this MOU, students of Welingkar institute will have an opportunity to attain the desired level of proficiency to face the competitive global market. Our teachers have a strong international profile and their multinational reach ensures Excellence in the emerging global picture, both in terms of teaching, Research & Industry connections. We see Research as a tool of community development and have built education and research in collaboration with Industry, Academia and Nations. With so many countries in our region having aging populations, the need to outsource, import of contractual labor and providing health solutions for the workforce is going to assume great importance. Curtin has therefore taken up research projects in health sector to keep people away from hospitals. Climate change is another issue threatening the planet today so sustainability and searching for alternate energy sources is an important agenda for us. We at Curtin are focused on finding solutions to such real world problems"

    With Australian government giving millions of dollars of funding as scholarships to international student community, coming together of these two leading institutes in the respective countries for signing of this MoU will open new vistas of growth and development for Indian youth.
