  • (1888PressRelease) March 04, 2011 - "WAB Version 2.2 [or WAB 2.2] is evolving in accordance with three principal aims - compliance, ergonomics and Return on Investment [ROI]. Given the place the product occupies in our clients' security policy, it was essential to simultaneously integrate the functionalities relating to strong authentication and password management, whilst increasing the ease of use and [enhancing] productivity," explains Jean-Noël de Galzain, CEO of Wallix.

"In this way, WAB 2.2 makes it possible to respond to the operational needs of the company whilst resolving increasingly inescapable legal constraints for businesses that outsource their IT systems," continues Jean-Noël de Galzain. "For the future, we have anticipated extending even further functionalities for the management of external and internal access rights to the IT system, by offering more services in terms of the management of recorded actions [performed on the IT system], in order to adapt to the requests coming from heads of IT security and systems, information-systems managers, as well as the company's auditors."

Wallix AdminBastion (WAB) is an innovative solution in terms of information-systems security, which combines identification management, access control, and the traceability of operations carried out on information systems. With WAB, the head of IT or Chief Operating Officer (CIO), within a company (or other entity), can control and monitor the access of external providers and internal users, whenever they perform operations on the IT system and equipment.

WAB Version 2.2 has a number of features that make it particularly attractive for businesses (and other entities) running complex and critical computing infrastructures.

First of all, with WAB Version 2.2, a more secure level of user authentication is achieved thanks to an enhanced management of electronic certificates. The authentication of internal users and external providers can be carried out via an X509 V3 electronic certificate. In this way, WAB makes possible the use of this strong authentication technology in an area not usually covered - that of the Unix servers, the Linux environment, and the network equipment.

Secondly, with WAB 2.2, the management of user passwords is fully compliant with the latest regulations in the field. WAB is now in the process of applying to user passwords a security policy (involving the periodical change of passwords, time limits on validity, duration, etc.) which complies with the SOX, Basel II/III, and PCI DSS standards.

Thirdly, WAB 2.2 makes possible a transparent management of accounts between the Microsoft Active Directory and the WAB. The new Account Mapping functionality enables easy integration into the Active Directory (AD) environment with, notably, the re-use of the AD user access rights in order to better connect with the target equipment managed by the WAB. The direct benefit derived from this set-up is to have a reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) within the Windows environment, as well as greater ease of use.

Finally, the optimisation of the weight of video-clips for a better management of disk space is an additional feature of WAB 2.2. In this new version, the WAB interface makes it possible to choose the level of quality of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session recordings. Thus, the CIO or the WAB administrator can strike a balance between the issue of the resolution of the recorded video material, on the one hand, and concerns regarding the weight of the files, on the other, which, in turn, allows him (or her) to better adapt to potential archiving constraints.
