The scheme is a Run-of-the-River hydro power plant on the river Sainj near Suind village, and a tributary of Beas in Kullu, a district in Himachal Pradesh. Run-of-the-river hydro power plants require considerably smaller water storage, and at times no water storage at all, and do not obstruct the natural flow of the river. Two Pelton turbines of 50 MW each will be installed for power generation.

"Himachal Pradesh, being a state in the Himalayan region, has a large untapped hydro power potential. Development of hydro power plants like Sainj Hydro-Electric project will help tap such potentials and bridge the gap between demand and supply of power in the country. Hydro power is the most reliable, cleanest and the oldest resource for generating renewable energy." said, Mr Amresh Dhawan, Managing Director of Voith Hydro in India.

The power house site is situated in the Kullu valley which attracts travellers from all across the world every year for its sprawling Apple orchards and beautiful hills covered with pine and deodar forests.

Moreover, it contributes significantly to climate friendly energy generation. Voith is a leading provider of hydro power technology and pushes its advancement through continued research and development.
