  • (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2011 - Maryland, U.S.A.: The Worksop man has been drawn alongside Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer when play gets under way at Congressional on Thursday.

Donald is the current World Number One, with that crown having passed between Westwood and Kaymer before that, and the former cannot wait for the tournament to start.

"It should be a great week - I'm very excited," said Westwood, who finished 19th at Congressional near Washington in 1997.

"My first impressions were it was a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be. The toughness of a US Open set-up takes you by surprise when you've never played it before.

"I think it's probably the toughest test of all four Majors. You seem to see the highest score winning here compared to the others.

"You just have to be very, very patient and not give any shots away unnecessarily.

"If you can make double instead of making triple that's great. If you can make bogey instead of making double that's fantastic.

"I'm hitting the ball very well. I'm driving it pretty long and straight and my iron shots are fairly crisp, which is good coming into a US Open.

"My preparation has gone well. I've played well just recently, really since The Masters, after a slowish start to the year.

"There's a couple of wins in there and obviously lost in a play-off to Luke (Donald) at the BMW PGA.
"My confidence is pretty high and I'm looking forward to this week.

"The Major Championships really now are the most exciting part of the year."

Westwood, joint 11th in Memphis on Sunday after coming first, first and second in his three previous stroke play events, lost his World Number One title to Donald at Wentworth.

That can change again this week while the third-ranked Kaymer could also regain top spot in the rankings if he lands his second Major.
