  • (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2016 - In March 2016, the specialists of the Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies of Ural Federal University participated in complex testing of the Vostochny cosmodrome's launcher. During the tests, which last for five days in a row, the rocket is installed on the launch pad of the cosmodrome in order to check systems and units of launching and instrumentation systems. At this stage, the specialists carry out the full cycle of works on preparation of the rocket for launch, except for fueling the rocket's tanks. The purpose of the testing is to check that all systems of cosmodrome are ready for the upcoming launch of the carrier rocket "Soyuz 2.1a", which is scheduled for April 2016.

The area of responsibility of UrFU includes Upper-air Sounding System, developed by the specialists of the Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies. Upper-air Sounding System provides the services of the launching complex with the information about parameters of the atmosphere, from the ground to a height of about 30 km. The data is used for the analysis of controllability and the decision to launch a carrier rocket. The system is designed and manufactured by the order of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Center For Operation Of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities" and contains a set of tools for the measurement of atmospheric parameters, the most advanced of which use global navigation systems such as GLONASS and GPS.

The commission for testing of the Upper-air Sounding System included employees of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Center For Operation Of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities", its branches "Yuzhny" and "Vostochny" Space Centers, Ural Federal University, JSC "Ural Manufacturing Enterprise "Vector" (Ekaterinburg) and JSC "Radiy" (Kasli, Chelyabinsk Region). According to test results, the prototype of the Upper-air Sounding System received the allowance to carry out meteorological support of the flight tests of the rocket "Soyuz 2.1a".
