  • (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2011 - The University of Kansas has started an extensive renovation project to Anschutz Pavilion, Kansas Athletics' indoor practice facility and the competition venue for the Ray Evans Field and Bill Easton Track. The renovations began May 18th and will be completed by early September 2011.

The Bill Easton track was originally installed in 1984 when Anschutz Pavilion was constructed; the track was most recently resurfaced in 1999. The current track is a 231-meter oval which will be converted to a 200-meter six-lane track, with eight lanes on the sprint straightaway, the current standard for indoor facilities.

Not only will Beynon Sports Surfaces reconfigure and upgrade the track surface with Beynon' state-of-the-art BSS 2000 track and field surface with proprietary Hobart texture, but some of the other improvements will include the reconfiguration of the long jump and triple jump pits and the addition of a new pole vault box and runway.

While the University of Kansas wanted to improve the facilities for their athletes, they also aimed to optimize the overall experience for the competitors as well as the fans of KU track and field. The University of Kansas underwent a comprehensive search to identify the firm that could understand the requirements for such a specialized track and field venue, and complete the construction on-time and with superior workmanship. After an extensive investigation, Beynon Sports was identified as the firm of choice.

"Beynon Sports is thrilled to have been selected to partner with Kansas University on the improvements to Anschutz Pavilion. Not only will the Jayhawks be competing on a track and field surface that has been specifically engineered for optimal competitive performance, but the surface is also extremely training friendly," said Drew Beynon, Chief Operating Officer of Beynon Sports. "We look forward to watching the Jayhawks shatter records for years to come."
