  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2013 - On September 26, two online video series targeted at new moms, Slummy Mummy and Double Leche, will premiere at the Independent Television and Film Festival (www.itvfest.com). The two series, which share creative inspiration and star, Jennifer Weedon, were entered into the festival independent of each other. Both production teams agree that each series takes "A Serious Look at the Comedy of Motherhood."

According to Weedon's co-star in Double Leche, Stephanie Faith Scott: "Until recently the web series space was dominated by faire for angst-ridden, twenty-somethings." She went on to explain, "We're delighted to expand the world of web television to include the awkward and sometimes funny moments while nursing." Valisa Tate, who co-stars in Slummy Mummy and created logos and marketing material for both shows, expounded on some of the issues: "You see us on screen and we're playing moms. But, we're also moms in real life. We know what it's like. You have to have a sense of humor to survive as a mom!"

While these comedies have a similar appeal, they are distinctly different shows. Double Leche focuses on separate instances where nursing moms run amok of conflicting norms and mores. Slummy Mummy is an episodic narrative that follows the travails of a New York shoe model as she tries to re-enter that cutthroat world while being a virtual single mom due to her husband's work schedule.

    Origins of the Two Series
New York city actress Jennifer Weedon (www.jenniferweedon.com) is a producer on both shows. She developed Slummy Mummy, a short form comedic web series that she writes, produces, and stars in. Public readings of Slummy Mummy for the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV.org) Writers Group and some high-profile news stories about breastfeeding led to Jennifer being approached by IAWTV board member and producer, J. Sibley Law (www.saxonmills.com), about partnering on a series targeting nursing moms. Along with co- producer Stephanie Scott (producer of early web series, The Retributioners), all three wrote, produced and shot seven episodes of Double Leche. The teams for both shows overlap quite a bit, including Valisa Tate as actor and marketing director.

Both teams, comprised of New York City parents who are also in the film business, are thrilled to be official selections for ITV Fest and are available for interviews.
