  • (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2016 - ElectraTherm, a leader in distributed, waste heat to power generation, shipped two Power+ Generator 6500's to a biomass site in Italy. Located in the city of Messina, the facility will utilize waste heat from the biomass boiler to generate emission-free electricity.

ElectraTherm utilizes Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and proprietary technologies to generate power from low temperature heat ranging from 77-122°C. At this site, woody biomass fuels a boiler to heat water to run the Power+ Generator at 116°C and 22 liters/second, producing clean electricity that is sold back to the utility at an incentivized rate. The remaining heat from ElectraTherm's condenser helps dry and treat the wood as part of the biomass processing.

"The market opportunity in Italy for biomass and waste heat recovery are complemented by renewable energy policies that accelerate return on investment," said Paolo Gaggero, Technical Director, TEC. "This application includes two ElectraTherm Power+ Generators, and offers an attractive payback while also being easily repeatable. We see great opportunities in the clean energy space for ElectraTherm's ORC technology."

ElectraTherm's Power+ Generator is available in three different sizes. The 4200 generates up to 35kWe, the 4400 generates up to 65kWe, and the 6500 is the largest size model generating up to 110kWe. ElectraTherm's Power+ Generators utilize waste heat on applications such as internal combustion engines, biomass, flare gas (at oil & gas wells, wastewater treatment plants and landfills) and geothermal/co-produced fluids. ElectraTherm's Power+ fleet has surpassed 515,000 hours of runtime with 97%+ uptime. A list of reference sites is currently available on the website.
