  • (1888PressRelease) August 18, 2015 - After exhausting her financial aid options, student, Gabriella Wilson, turns to crowd funding to cover the rest of her college-related expenses. The fundraiser can be found on "Go Fund Me", a popular crowd funding website.

Dwight Wilson, father to Gabriella, said, "We will try everything to get her to accomplish her dreams. Right now it seems like the scholarships aren't working and, unfortunately, we just don't have the kind of money we need right now."

Parents know the importance of getting their child to college but often times lack the funding, frequently taking out loans and piling on debt that follows them and their children for 20 years or more. Getting their child to college can sometimes be such a priority that the parent empties his or her retirement fund early, leaving the parent with nothing to fall back on.

Gabriella Wilson graduated high school in 2014 but has never set foot on the New York college campus she has been enrolled in now for over a year. She's spent it working a full-time job to save up for college costs. In addition, she has received the maximum amount of financial aid awarded by the government and has submitted over 150 scholarships.

Yet, she is still short $12,000 on tuition, $6,750 on housing, $4,300 on food and $586 for books. "Tuition for college/universities has been getting higher over the years while financial aid has been getting lower. I just want to make it so I can inspire people with my story," says Gabriella. She hopes to raise $25,000 by September 12.
