  • (1888PressRelease) July 27, 2011 - P1 Groupe driver Owen Trinkler and the rest of the #198 RSR Mini Cooper S Team returned to New Jersey Motorsports Park last weekend for the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series Race with extremely high hopes as it was the site of the team's last victory. The team also came in this weekend with heavy hearts as the team still mourned the loss of Team Owner Randy Smalley's wife a few weeks ago, and they were looking for a memorial victory for the Smalley Family.

As every other weekend the #198 came off the truck fast, and Trinkler's co-driver Sarah Cattaneo was called upon to qualify the car for the race. She did a phenomenal job with a third place qualifying run. Cattaneo started the race and kept the Mini Cooper S near the top half of the field before entering pit lane to hand the clean car over to Trinkler. Trinkler then began to do what he has done all of his career by running exceptionally quick lap times as well as beginning to pick his way through the field and eventually making a pass on the Mazda to take the lead the away. A late race accident caused the race to end under caution, but gave Trinkler and the RSR Team their first victory of the season, Catteneo's first professional victory, back-to-back wins at NJMP, and the victory dedicated to the Smalleys.

"This is a very special win not only for Sarah and I but for the whole RSR Team" stated Trinkler. "RSR Motorsports is a family oriented team, and everybody I'm sure by now knows of the loss of Team Owner Randy Smalley's wife a few weeks ago, and it's great to get this victory for him and his family as well as getting Sarah's first professional win. I really like this track, and with the addition of that new bus stop chicane the Mini Cooper S can maneuver around those turns much better than some of our competitors. It was a very hot day out there, and I'm proud of everybody on this team for all of the hardwork they put in all weekend long in that extreme heat."

After nine races on the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series schedule Trinkler is currently in third in Driver Championship Points Standings, while RSR Motorsports is currently third in Team Championship Points Standings for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series.

The next scheduled race for Owen Trinkler and the rest of the RSR Motorsports Team will be the EMCO Gears Classic September 17th on the 2.258-mile, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. This race can be on SPEED Channel on September 25th at 12pm. All Times Eastern.
