  • (1888PressRelease) March 24, 2015 - TraceSpan™ Communications, a leader in broadband analysis and monitoring solutions, announced today the addition of stand-alone ONU testing capability to its GPON Tracer 380 handheld testing device.

The GPON Tracer is a powerful tool for telecom operators' field engineers involved in GPON network troubleshooting, as well as for OLT and ONU/ONT manufacturers' customer support teams. The new stand-alone ONU testing capability enables GPON Tracer to test an ONU or ONT without the need to connect it to the GPON network, making it significantly faster and easier to isolate the root cause of a customer's service issue.

"False replacement of customer equipment is one of the biggest pain points for telecom operators", said Dr. Hanan Herzberg, TraceSpan founder and CEO. "The GPON Tracer ONU test prevents these replacements and provides clear isolation of the source of customer issues. This is a fast way for operators to improve customer satisfaction and significantly cut their support-related costs."

The ONU stand-alone testing capability will be provided free-of-charge to GPON Tracer customers with a valid maintenance contract, as well as to new customers who purchase GPON Tracer by the end of Q2/2015. It is planned to be expanded in the future to provide even deeper testing of the ONU and more detailed fault isolation.

Additional capabilities in the new GPON Tracer firmware version include a speed test recording tool as well as enhancements in the measurement reports.
