  • Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) October 22, 2026 - MachineTranslation.com, an AI translation platform developed by Tomedes, a professional translation company, has added support for XLIFF and MQXLIFF files. Users can upload bilingual files exported from computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and download the translated output in the original file format. XLIFF (XML Localization Interchange File Format) is an open standard maintained by OASIS for exchanging localization data between tools. It is used by CAT tools including MemoQ, Trados, Phrase, Wordfast, and OmegaT. A single file holds the source text, the target segments, segment identifiers, and project metadata, which allows a project to move between tools and contributors without losing its structure. MQXLIFF is the variant of the format used by MemoQ. Previously, content from a CAT tool had to be exported as a plain document before it could be processed on the platform, and the translated text placed back into the project manually. That process did not preserve the segment structure or metadata stored in the original file.

    Workflow
The file is exported from the CAT tool in XLIFF or MQXLIFF format and uploaded to MachineTranslation.com, where the user selects the language pair. The translated file is returned in the same format and imported back into the CAT tool, with segments in their original positions. During processing, the platform runs the content through several AI models, compares the output segment by segment, and presents the translation that the majority of models produce. Segments that diverge from the majority are excluded from the selected output. Review and editing take place in the user’s own tool. “Translators working in MemoQ, Trados, and Phrase handle these files daily,” said Shashank Jain, Tech Lead at Tomedes. “Supporting the format on both upload and download means the file keeps its structure through the process.” “This is a format change rather than a change to how translation is produced,” said Ofer Tirosh, CEO of Tomedes. “The file goes out and comes back in the same shape it started in.” XLIFF and MQXLIFF support is live on MachineTranslation.com. The platform covers more than 330 languages.
