  • Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2011 - The Opera Season is in rare form as three well-known and beloved operas come to the Miramar Cultural Center beginning January 2011.

Lucia Di Lammermoor, Turandot, and Madama Butterfly, all accompanied by the Russian National Symphony and presented by Opera International and the Miramar Cultural Center, will be performed in the beautifully intimate 800-seat theatre. All performances begin promptly at 8 p.m.

The season opens Tuesday, January 25th with Lucia Di Lammermoor, the story of a feud between the Scottish families of Ravenswood and Lammermoor. Enrico (Lord Henry Ashton of Lammermoor) has gained the upper hand over Edgardo (Edgar of Ravenswood), killing his kinsmen and taking over his estates. In political disfavor, he stakes all on uniting his family with that of Arturo (Lord Arthur Bucklaw), whom he means to force his sister, Lucia (Lucy Ashton), to marry.

Continuing the productions on Tuesday, February 22nd, Turandot premieres. This is the story of the conversion of an ice princess through the power of love. It takes place in ancient Peking and provides the audience with the essential elements for a grand opera. It has passion, dramatic tension and an exotic locale. The richness of melody and the sumptuousness of the orchestral music are what creates opera fans for life.

Closing the season is one of the most celebrated operas of all time -- Madama Butterfly on Tuesday, March 22nd. The story is set in Japan during the early 20th Century on a flowering terrace above Nagasaki harbor. U.S. Navy Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton is inspecting the house he has leased from a marriage broker, Goro, who has just procured him three geishas and a wife, Cio-Cio-San, known as Madama Butterfly.

Tickets $40 and $45 and on sale now and available at 954-602-4500, or the Box Office, Tuesday - Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and two hours prior to show time. *Box Office fees apply.
