  • (1888PressRelease) August 27, 2019 - THINKWARE, has today announced the UK launch of its U1000 dash cam, equipped with Ultra HD 4K resolution and Energy saving 2.0 that drastically lowers power consumption in parking mode.

The U1000 front camera operates at 4K Ultra High Definition at 30 frames per second(fps). Alternatively, the front camera can operate at Quad High Definition at 60 fps. The rear facing camera operates at QHD at 30 fps in both scenarios. The benefit of 60 fps is the improved reliability in capturing number plates when oncoming vehicles are travelling at speed.

Standard parking mode, with optional time lapse photography, lasts for around two days. Energy Saving 2.0 extends the parking mode to around two months. While in Energy Saving 2.0, when equipped with the optional radar, it will detect a moving object within a specific range and wake up the camera ready for impact recording. If an impact has been detected within 30 seconds, the dash cam will save 20 seconds of footage before and after the impact. If no impact is detected within 30 seconds of waking up, the dash cam will automatically switch back to energy saving mode. The duration in RADAR mode is around two weeks. The user can then select the appropriate mode in line with the length of time the vehicle will be parked. The exact durations depend on the size and charge of the vehicle battery.

The first of its kind in the THINKWARE portfolio, the U1000 CLOUD connectivity offers a Remote Live View streaming feature in driving mode and Parking Incident Notifications and video clip upload, in parking mode.

The THINKWARE CLOUD features also include Geo Fencing, Locate Vehicle and Driving Impact Notification with video clip upload.

As with other THINKWARE products, the U1000 is equipped with Super Night Vision 2.0 which means clearer night time footage both while driving and when parked with up to 10 times the brightness in dark environments

Users can easily control and manage their U1000 dash cam with CLOUD connectivity and built-in WiFi via an iOS or Android smart phone, providing a truly convenient way to view, download, access or delete recorded footage, as well as enable firmware and safety camera updates via the app.

Tim Sagar, THINKWARE Business Development Manager, says: “The U1000, with its superior specification now including Energy Saving 2.0 and 4K Recording Quality, is set to regain THINKWARE’s position in the market as the best dash camera manufacturer out there. This product offers top of the range innovation, giving users the opportunity to live stream from their vehicles, from wherever they are.

“A recent study by the RAC found that almost three million motorists are now recording their journeys with dash cams. With more motorists starting to see the value of dashboard cameras it’s important that we stay one step ahead, continually innovating and offering users the best in dash cam technology. The U1000 does exactly that.”

The U1000 comes with a polarising filter to reduce dashboard reflections. It is packed with useful features including built-in Assisted GPS (A-GPS) for embedding speed, time and location data into recorded videos. The location is remembered so it achieves instant GPS lock when switched on. There is also the option of connecting an external GPS antenna, to get around the shielding effect of heated or sun reflective windscreens.

The location data is used to provide safety camera alerts, which include speed cameras, red light cameras, average speed zones and mobile speed camera zones. The European version of the camera provides “Danger Zone” alerts in France, as well as safety camera alerts in the rest of Europe.

Format Free 2.0 Technology eliminates the need for manual reformatting of recorded video files on the micro SD memory card, extending memory card life and improving reliability.

Various safety features have also been included to protect drivers; Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS), Urban Forward Collision Warning System (uFCWS) and Front Vehicle Departure Warning (FVDW).

The THINKWARE U1000 dash cam is available from, the RAC, Amazon and through independent UK retailers. Pricing starts at £399 for the front camera and £529 for front and rear. The optional RADAR Sensor costs £69.99.
