  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) July 14, 2010 - On July 25th, The San Francisco Marathon™ will be adding a new activity to their annual race: the Munchkin Kids Fun Run to benefit the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (the Center).

The Munchkin Kids Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. when kids of all ages will hit the Embarcadero for three different events: a one-mile run, a half-mile run and a 100 yard run. All participants will receive a race bib, t-shirt and a finisher's medal and are invited to enjoy free food and drink at the Munchkin Festival following the run. Kids will also have the opportunity to flex their creativity by painting their t-shirts at the festival.

"Every year, we work with hundreds of families in the Bay Area through counseling, educational programs and services. Our goal with the 'Munchkin Kids Fun Run' is to involve the whole family in this San Francisco tradition allowing parents and children to participate in a variety of activities together," said Katie Albright, executive director of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. "It's from the support of local residents and organizations like The San Francisco Marathon™ that we are able to continue our work to prevent child abuse and help parents raise happy and healthy children."

The Center is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, the promotion of healthy families and the mental health of children. As one of the most comprehensive services providers in San Francisco, it also offers education, training programs and public advocacy for child abuse prevention.

The Munchkin Kids Fun Run costs $25 to register and parents are encouraged to help the Center fundraise by gathering pledges for their children from families and friends. Pre-registration is required. For more information, please visit www.thesfmarathon.com/the-race/munchkin-kids-run.php.
