The Peninsula Hong Kong Raises HK$ 980,000 For The Japanese Red Cross With "Hope For Japan"

  • (1888PressRelease) August 18, 2011 - Funds were raised in a three-pronged campaign spearheaded by the esteemed five star hotels in Hong Kong (http://www.peninsula.com/Hong_Kong/en/Accommodation/default.aspx) The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited that ran from 21 March to 31 May 2011, with The Peninsula Hong Kong donating HK$ 78 (US$ 10) from every guest's stay; a special Japanese-themed Afternoon Tea which saw 100% of retail sales donated; and a " Tree of 1,000 Cranes" where guests were invited to make a minimum donation of HK$ 50 (or US$ 6) to create a symbolic origami crane, donated by the Hong Kong hotel (http://www.peninsula.com/Hong_Kong/en/default.aspx) to "HOPE FOR JAPAN".

    Funds raised by Peninsula Hotels worldwide reached a grand total of US$ 515,000. During a ceremony held at The Peninsula Tokyo, General Manager Mr Malcolm Thompson presented a cheque to Mr Ryouichi Hattori, Director General of the Organisational Development Department of the Japanese Red Cross Society, on behalf of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited. All contributions were donated to the national Grant Disbursement Committee - of which the Japanese Red Cross Society is a member - for distribution by local prefectural governments as cash grants to families affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
