The Kid Rated R was born Robert Quintana in San Francisco, California in 1985. He was surrounded with drum machines, hot food, salsa music, and brought up by his father, Robert Sr., a conga drummer. The Kid knew funk, rock and Motown. He was three.

The Kid experienced unbridled attention in 8th grade when he decided to do freestyle battle - his first time doing it and the first time in front of an excited crowd.
