    Capitola, CA - September 8, 2015: The Core Collaborative, a professional learning network that specializes in the design and delivery of comprehensive professional learning, has announced that its team will present a learning workshop, The EmpowerED Learner: The Power of Self and Peer Assessment, on September 24th & 25th, 2015 in Capitola, CA at the Fairfield Inn & Suites. The September 24th event will accommodate Grades 2-5, while the September 25th event will accommodate Grades 6-12.

    This event focuses on The Core Collaborative's EmpowerED Learner Series™ and is designed for both teachers and administrators, focusing on instructing educators on how to develop a process to teach students how to be accurate and effective at self and peer assessment. It will also instruct attendees on utilizing self and peer assessment to help students monitor and improve their learning. The ultimate goal is to help educators assist students in taking ownership of their learning and understanding the power of collaboration to increase their own learning. School principals are encouraged to send groups of teachers to the event.

    The Core Collaborative utilizes current research on student-centered approaches to learning, which lead to deeper learning. The professional network partners with schools, districts, systems, and educational organizations to establish and sustain professional development for educators. The Core Collaborative operates with the goal of strengthening the ability of educators to help students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed throughout school and in life.

    The EmpowerED Learner Series™ utilizes meta-analytic research rooted in the formative assessment process, as well as high-yield strategy instruction, as the foundation for its learning services.
