  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - The Center for Women and Enterprise (CWE), regional certifying partner of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), awarded national Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) certification to 23 women-owned businesses during first and second quarters of 2012.

As of 2011, it is estimated that there are over 8.1 million women-owned businesses in America, generating $1.3 trillion in revenue and employing nearly 7.7 million people nationwide.

WBENC's national standard of certification is implemented by CWE, an organization dedicated to increasing access to business opportunities for women-owned businesses in New England through advocacy, networking and education since 1995. Women-owned businesses receive WBENC certification only after submitting to a meticulous process involving an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women.

By including women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs.

CWE awarded WBENC certification to the following New England-based women-owned businesses from January to June 2012:
