  • (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2012 - It was an extraordinary opportunity for the students and staff of the school to interact with such an inspirational speaker such as Mark Inglis.

Mark Inglis became the first ever double amputee to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. He did so on May 15, 2006 after 40 days of climbing. He also won a silver medal for cycling at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics Games.

Over the last seven years Mark has specialised in keynote addresses that are based around mountaineering as a metaphor for business and life, utilising his wide experience in the mountains, vineyards and boardrooms. To take that experience a step further he also offers a range of learning programs. Please visit his website at http://markinglis.co.nz/ .

The students of the The British School came away with strong lessons from the talk -of making an opportunity out of adversity, believing in oneself, having the courage of one's convictions, daring to dream and making the impossible happen. As the first double amputee to have climbed Mt. Everest and to have, Mr. Inglis was indeed the perfect role model. Mr. Inglis's words and experiences confirmed that heroism is not just about one great deed but is about perseverance and a 'never say die' attitude. He was asked questions by the students and the underlying theme of all his answers was-make the best of what you have, seize every opportunity and believe in yourself.

Dr. Nick Argent, Director of The British School said, "Our students have learned very emphatically that the quality of their lives will be determined by their own actions and an ability to innovate, adapt and reorient one's thinking".
