Texas Camp Declares 2015 "The Year of the Shero"
Girls Will Get "Glow in the Dark" Superpower at New Years Camp on January 1st.
- Montgomery, AL (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2014 - Shockingly, only one in five girls believes she has the qualities to be a good leader. Camp Lantern Creek, a Texas summer camp for girls ages 7 to 17 years old, is determined to change that. At the second annual Lantern Creek New Years Camp, girls will create an 8 foot "Glow Board," capturing their own personal superpowers with neon chalk. The activity will be followed by a glow-in-the-dark dance party.
Says Sunni Markowitz, Camp Owner and Director, "Girls are typically told to color within the lines, so we've created an activity where they can go completely wild with their artistic ideas. We're not giving them any rules at all - just to express what being a female leader means to them! At Lantern Creek we promote outside-of-the-box thinking in many creative and artistic ways."
The board will then be spread across social media and other girls will be encouraged to add their own superpower on Lantern Creek's Facebook page.
Two other 2015 programs are:
- The "virtual house party." The camp directors will "visit" prospective parents via computer, tablet, or smart phone. Says Markowitz, "So many parents are pressed for time these days, but they still want to meet the camp directors and learn about program details. Moms and dads can dial-in from wherever they are!" The camp also runs live house parties leading up to camp.
- The continuation of the "Bright Lights" program - visits by local women leaders throughout the 2015 summer season. Last season's guests included Kelly Smith, a professional trainer with her client Allie Edwards, a Florida State Golden Glove boxer.
