  • (1888PressRelease) November 09, 2013 - Bethesda, MD - Jay H. Sanders, M.D., President and CEO of The Global Telemedicine Group and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has joined the advisory board of Access Health Group, parent company of CampusMD, the recently launched mobile medicine solution that brings physician choice and quality care directly to college students via video or phone.

Devin Schain, Access Health Group founder and CEO, said, "We are thrilled to have Dr. Jay Sanders on our advisory team. As a pioneer in the field of telemedicine, he understands the changes sweeping through medical practice and the ways in which innovative technologies can expand access and quality. He will be invaluable as we bring office visits directly to students via technology."

Dr. Sanders has spent the majority of his professional career involved in teaching, patient care and health care research. The author of numerous articles on telemedicine, he is a Senior Editor of the Telemedicine and e-Health Journal, Deputy Editor of the International e-Health Journal, and has served on the editorial boards of the Telemedicine Newsletter, Telemedicine Report, The Telemedicine Connection, Telemedicine and Telehealth Networks and Telemedicine and Virtual Reality.

On this new advisory role, Dr. Sanders commented, "I'm excited to be part of this pioneering venture in student telehealth. I believe that students are the perfect group for CampusMD's telehealth care service. They understand the technology and will embrace seeing a doctor using their computers or mobile devices. They want convenience and quality without the long wait or high cost of an in-person visit. They will be early adopters because this service fits the way busy students live."

Dr. Sanders directed the U.S. telemedicine initiatives to the G-8 nations, has been a consultant to The World Health Organization on Health Telematics, and is now a consultant to the Russian Telemedicine Foundation, the Columbia University School of Medicine and its Center for Advanced Technology. Other positions he has held include Visiting Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine, Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the Telemedicine Program at the Medical College of the University of Georgia, where he held the Eminent Scholar in Telemedicine chair.

Dr. Sanders earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School Magna Cum Laude. He completed his residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he became Chief Medical Resident. He also did a research fellowship in Immunology at the National Institutes of Health.

Access Health Group and CampusMD bring around-the clock physician care to the employer and higher-education markets, respectively. Using the latest mobile technologies, the companies connect patients immediately to Board-certified physicians who diagnose and treat a range of non-emergency illnesses and conditions. Office visits are conducted at the patient's convenience with the doctor and technology of choice at a cost far lower than an in-person visit.
