  • (1888PressRelease) June 19, 2011 - Almost 650 riders turned up to complete OrchidCycle Essex 2011 despite the appalling forecast which turned out to be rather accurate. After a bright and sunny start, the clouds came in and the riders set off in somewhat cold conditions which were only to worsen later in the day. Despite the weather team Enviro took to the roads of Essex in bright spirits and completed the 40 mile ride during the day. With a bouncy castle for the kids and the children's go-Ride and Orchid Community Golf Programme much fun was had by all.

The team rode in good spirits, with freshly serviced bikes and cycling gear. The race began at a steady pace with each team member getting a feel for their bikes and the hilly terrain, soon the terrain began to take its toll on a few of the team members, and a few slow punctures meant some of the team began to fall behind.

Soon two groups formed with half the pack trying to keep the pace and the front half each vying to finish first and win those coveted bragging rights. The first group crossed the 40 mile finish line in an impressive two and a half hours with the rest of team following them with a respectable four hour ride amidst plenty of cheers and a well deserved BBQ and beer.

Team Enviro donated £1000 to Orchid at the event and have raised further funds since. To date over £21,755 from the event has been raised with plenty more expected in from sponsorship.
