  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) June 11, 2011 - Dantes Rameau, a 28-year-old, classically trained bassoonist and the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Atlanta Music Project, has added another accomplishment to his resume as a recent inductee into LEAD Atlanta's Class of 2012. He sits amongst a roster of fifty-three highly qualified individuals who reflect the broad diversity of metropolitan Atlanta and chosen by a selection committee who reviewed nearly two-hundred nominations.

LEAD Atlanta has identified Rameau as a highly capable, young, emerging leader demonstrating excellence in his field. Since 2009, Rameau was inducted into Abreu Fellows Program at New England Conservatory, was selected by a group of distinguished advisors to receive the '25 for 25' Grant from The AOL Grant Program awarding him $25,000 as a 'groundbreaker with a creative spark to ignite', and formed the Atlanta Music Project, a 'music for social change' organization that is positively influencing Atlanta's at-risk youth. Modeled after the acclaimed Venezuelan-based music-education program, El Sistema, the Atlanta Music Project's mission is to transform the lives of Atlanta's underprivileged children through youth orchestra and choir instruction.

"Dantes cannot be a more deserving participant of LEAD Atlanta's Class of 2012," says Al Meyers, Founder of TEDxPeachtree and Co-Founder & Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Music Project. "He shares my passion for education and social change and LEAD will garnish him with additional tools to make him an exceptional community leader."

Prior to forming Atlanta Music Project, Rameau graduated from McGill University to receive his Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance, earning an award for "Outstanding Performance in Bassoon". He earned his Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Yale University School of Music, and then went on to the Performance Residency Program at Carnegie Mellon University.
