TaiyangNews has released the 6th edition of its popular Top Solar Modules Analysis, providing a comprehensive review of the highest-efficiency commercial solar modules across all mainstream technologies. This milestone edition is built upon TaiyangNews’ monthly Top Solar Modules publication and marks the 42nd consecutive update of its efficiency ranking.
- (1888PressRelease) June 25, 2025 - TaiyangNews has released the 6th edition of its widely followed Top Solar Modules Analysis, presenting a comprehensive view of the highest-efficiency commercial solar modules across all mainstream technologies. This milestone report is based on TaiyangNews’ monthly publication of TOP SOLAR MODULES, and marks the 42nd consecutive update of the efficiency ranking.
Taking the data from January 2023 to June 2025, this edition evaluates module efficiencies and power ratings from integrated manufacturers that produce their own solar cells, offering an in-depth look at technology evolution and company performance trends.
Speaking about the report, Michael Schmela, Managing Director of TaiyangNews, said: “Over the past two and a half years, driven by advancements in high-performance cell architectures, commercial module efficiency has improved by over 1.4% points. Back-contact and HJT technologies have played a pivotal role in this progression. Their increasing deployment has reshaped the efficiency landscape and accelerated the shift toward next-generation module designs."
Key Highlights of the Report
Record Efficiency Levels
The top commercial module efficiency jumped from 22.8% in early 2023 to 24.4% in June 2025 - a significant 1.4% absolute gain, driven by continued innovations in cell technology.
AIKO Maintains Leadership
AIKO retained its #1 ranking throughout the reporting period, consistently pushing the boundaries with its Back-Contact (BC) modules. As of June 2025, BC modules dominate the top 3 spots - with AIKO, LONGi, and Maxeon leading the charge.
Top 5 Rankings (June 2025)
• 1st: AIKO BC with 24.4%
• 2nd: LONGi BC with 24.2%
• 3rd: Maxeon BC with 24.1%
• 4th: Huasun HJT with 23.5%
• 5th: JA Solar TOPCon with 23.2%
Technology Trends
• BC modules are at the forefront with 24.4% top efficiency.
• HJT follows at 23.5%, led by Huasun.
• TOPCon broke the 23% barrier, reaching 23.2%, showcasing rising competitiveness.
• PERC, with no recent gains, is on a decline, reflecting an industry-wide phaseout.
Module Count and Manufacturer Participation
From 34 modules and 23 suppliers in early 2023, the listing has expanded to 51 modules from 33 manufacturers by mid-2025. However, a recent dip in total product count occurred as companies phased out lower-efficiency PERC modules.
Efficiency Band Movement
The report categorizes module progress into 4 bands - above 22.5%, 22.0–22.5%, 21.7–22.0%, and 21.5–21.7% - tracking company-wise shifts and band-level dynamics, supported by detailed graphical insights.
Module Power Rankings
• High-power modules (600 W+) now represent over 50% of all listings.
• Huasun’s HJT module leads with 730 W.
• Tongwei and Trinasolar follow at 715 W, while Grand Sunergy and Jetion offer 710 W.
• Canadian Solar’s PERC touched 675 W, while AIKO’s BC reached 660 W.
Badge of Excellence
The exclusive Badge of Excellence, introduced in 2023, continues to recognize companies that made it to the Top 10 for at least 6 months in a calendar year - celebrating those showing consistent leadership in module innovation.
