    George E. Curry writes a weekly syndicated column for the National Newspapers Publishers Association (NNPA) and "Beyond the Spin," a column for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Before joining the NNPA, Curry was editor-in-chief of Emerge magazine for seven years. He is past president of the American Society of Magazine Editors, the first African-American to hold the association's top office. Before taking over as editor of Emerge, Curry served as New York bureau chief and as a Washington correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. Prior to joining the Tribune in 1983, Curry worked for 11 years as a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and for two years as a reporter for Sports Illustrated. Without fail, Mr. George E. Curry will add just the right spice, as he delivers his encouraging message, that despite any situation, you can overcome and beat the odds.

    The Power of Thought hosts Six (6) powerful workshops, including: Mediation Strategies with Prince George's County, Leslie Rollins, Linette Daniels Empowering Youth to Success, and How to Start/Brand Your Own Internet Radio Show, by Miss Kriss of Can We Talk Radio. Diane Ables of Booker T. Washington Public Charter Schools shares information on Apprenticeship and GED Programs, as well as 2 Workshops by Youth Presenters Antone Green and Ramon Kearney. A Fashion show by the Interns of PG Countys Community Mediation Dept, a variety of vendors, an array of prizes, and D.C. WASA will be on hand to distribute water, to round out the activities for the day.

    The Leaders of Today (LOT) Mentoring Program is designed to assist youth ages 11-17 in learning to understand and communicate their feelings to peers and develop positive relationships with other adults. LOT is currently operating in the Bladensburg Elementary School in Bladensburg, MD but soon will be included in the 1330 Housing development formerly known as Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
