  • (1888PressRelease) August 22, 2010 - India's largest and the world's third largest wind turbine company organized a unique event to build awareness about renewable energy in India. On the 20th of August, a day celebrated as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas across the nation, Pune based-Suzlon, India's largest and the world's third largest wind turbine company organized a unique event to build awareness about renewable energy in India.

On this day, the company put on display the most tangible part of wind energy - a 26 meter long wind turbine blade of a Suzlon 600 kilowatt (kw) wind turbine generator - in Pune, home to Suzlon and the wind energy capital of India.

Put on exhibit at Gold Adlabs, the sheer size and complexity of the technology that goes into generating power from wind astounded every passer by. People of all ages thronged in hundreds throughout the day to feel and experience the display. Facts on the effects of climate change and global warming, and in turn the necessities of renewable energy were a part of the display and were read with great interest. Everyone eagerly took the opportunity to sign on the turbine blade and left messages appreciating the initiative and Suzlon's role in shaping the wind industry of India. There was enthusiastic participation in the quiz competition and more than 30 movie tickets were awarded to people based on their 'green' performance. Top Suzlon management members including Tulsi Tanti, the Chairman and Managing Director, participated in the event.

Today, four per cent of India's energy needs are met by renewable energy; of which 70 per cent is provided for by wind. In other words, wind today generates enough power to light more than ten million Indian households.

But due to its very nature, wind farms are remote and thus experienced by very few. Suzlon's aim was to bring it within reach and which better day than Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas - a day to celebrate renewable energy.

To know wind is to know Suzlon. The exhibit will be open to the public on the 20th and the 21st of August.
