  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) February 10, 2016 - Susan Berg's oil landscapes, while intimate and tranquil, convey a sense of the vast spaces of her native Pacific Northwest. She depicts oceans, mountains, fields, and skies in small slices, focusing on a single farmstead or a pair of swans in flight. The frames are tight; the field of vision is deep; there are worlds waiting just past the edge of the canvas.

Much like her small-scale subject matter, Berg describes her overall technique as portraying "the impression" of the day, the weather, and the colors rather than perfectly reproducing the scene. To this end, she uses her colors thoughtfully. Her palette is pared down, not quite to essentials, but to gradients and transitions. Enough shadows are present to convey both depth and atmosphere - but only just enough. Details are smoothed into clean lines for a finished piece that is contemplative while retaining an engrossing kind of realism.

Berg was born in Seattle, Washington where she continues to live and work today. She has exhibited extensively in the western United States as well as in England.

    About the Exhibition

Fragmented Reality: An Exhibition in NYC
With gusto and energy, Agora Gallery's exhibition Fragmented Reality boasts over one hundred artworks by twenty artists. Angela Di Bello and her team have curated a remarkable exhibition which stages an interrogation of the dynamic balance of feminine and masculine energies while eschewing both romanticism and politics. Instead it solicits contemplation of three focused concepts: the interpretation of humans and animals within a shared environment; portraiture and abstract landscapes; and opposing forces, such as happiness and sadness, pleasure and pain. Presiding over the stunning visual space, the participating artists have conjured an airy grace from an immense application of bright colors and mixed media which all come together effortlessly in this comprehensive exhibition of fine art.
