  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - Dubai, UAE: This year Philips AVENT has extended their annual breastfeeding forum to also cover early child nutrition. The conferences will take place in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and are provided by thought professional leaders.

Philips AVENT believes that breastfeeding is the best method of nutrition for babies in the first 6 months of a child's life and that women should be given as much information and education as possible regarding the benefits of breast milk, and then on early child nutrition. Philips AVENT believes that it is every mother's right to make her own personal decision on how she feeds her baby.

Therefore, the conferences are to provide mothers and mums-to-be all the necessary information on breastfeeding and healthy child nutrition practices and to invest in creating dialog between gynaecologists, midwives, breastfeeding advisors, nursing professionals, neonatologists and paediatricians in order to support mothers' best choices.

"Philips AVENT is delighted to be the No. 1 recommended brand by Mums* with its products loved by both mums and babies. However, we are about more than just products. We are a promise and commitment to mothers all over the world who depend and rely on our expert advice to help reassure and support mothers' best choices, from pregnancy to playground. The mission of the Breastfeeding & Child Nutrition Conference is to allow mum's to make an informed choice when it comes to infant or child nutrition," says Vincenzo Ventricelli, marketing director of Philips Consumer Lifestyle, Middle East and Africa.

This year Philips AVENT are conducting two 'free of charge' forums, one in Abu Dhabi, 15 May 2011, at the Beach Rotana Hotel and another one in Dubai, 17 May 2011, at the Address Hotel Dubai Marina.

During the morning session, mums and 'mothers to be' will be able to participate in a breastfeeding and weaning educational class. This class will be run by internationally recognised speakers and topics to be discussed include the benefits of breastfeeding, how to start weaning, baby nutrition and practical tips and advice on common concerns associated with the early days of breastfeeding, as well as interesting and helpful facts about newborns.

"Woman have the right to informed choices and that starts with prenatal education and being allowed to ask questions while making decisions along with the midwife or her doctor. This ensures confidence, reduces fear and gives her back the control, ultimately respecting her as a person capable of birthing and feeding her child," says Cecile de Scally , who is a Midwife Educator with more than 15 years experience in antenatal and postnatal support and education, and speaker at the Philips AVENT conference.

The session for mums and 'mothers to be' will start at 8.30am with morning coffee and conclude with a complimentary buffet lunch at 12.30pm. There will also be a crèche and a private breast feeding area.

The afternoon session is aimed at Healthcare Professionals giving them a deeper insight into the latest research around the long term benefits of breastfeeding. This session will start with a complementary networking buffet lunch at 1pm with the learning session starting at 2pm.

The chair of the afternoon session will be Dr Mohamad Miqdady is the Director of Nutrition Services at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. Also speaking will be Prof. Guido Moro who is a Professor of Neonatology at the Postgraduate School of Paediatrics, University of Milan in Italy. His main field of research is infant nutrition, with particular interest in very low birth weight infants, infant feeding and human birth milk on which he has published more than 250 scientific papers.

Topics to be discussed include the importance of human milk in premature infants feeding, complementary feeding and updates on human milk banking in Italy and Europe.
