SUNY Ulster Accepting Entries for "Water" Regional Juried Exhibition

  • Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, NY (1888PressRelease) November 24, 2011 - The deadline for submitting entries to the College for the show that will be judged by local painter, photographer and installation artist Portia Munson is Jan. 18. The exhibition will open with a reception on March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gallery and run through April 13.

    Munson is known for her "Pink Projects," made up of thousands of pink plastic objects that explore "the marketing of femininity" and for her large flower prints, scanned configurations of flowers collected from her garden. A resident of Greene County, she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Cooper Union in New York City and a master of fine arts from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, and she has been awarded numerous fellowships and residencies.

    All media will be accepted from artists 18 and older working within Ulster, Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange and Sullivan counties. Works will be judged from Jan. 23, to 27, and artists will be notified by email from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3.

    SUNY Ulster's Muroff Kotler Visual Arts Gallery is open Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and by appointment. It is closed March 12-16 for spring recess and all other college holidays. Events are free and open to the public.
