  • (1888PressRelease) December 14, 2011 - Since April 1, 2011 over 1 million pounds of residential TV's, computers, monitors, printers, scanners, mice, keyboards and other electronic equipment have been responsibly recycled and diverted from waste streams within New York State by Sunnking Inc., a local electronics recycling, data destruction, and asset management company.

The 1 million pounds of electronics were collected through 42 separate one day residential electronics recycling drives, hosted in conjunction with over 100 town municipalities, local businesses, organizations and nonprofits in New York State. The goal of the recycling events was to offer a free and convenient means for the public and small businesses/nonprofits to recycle their old or unwanted electronics and equipment according to the New York State Electronic Equipment Recycling & Reuse Act which went into effect on April 1, 2011. One of Sunnking's residential recycling event goals is to help provide charitable partners with funds to further their cause. Two successful fundraising events this year included the We-Cycle Donation Program in partnership with Foodlink, and the E-Scrap For Camp fundraiser that benefited Camp Good Days. Combined, Sunnking was able to donate almost $15,000 to these two great nonprofits in 2011.

Sunnking is on track to recycle between 10-15 million pounds of electronics and equipment through all of their combined efforts including business clients, permanent e-scrap recycling drop off sites and recycling events.

Zachary Hussion, Sunnking's Director of Marketing, who joined the team in late November of 2010, led the e-scrap recycling collection event efforts and was instrumental in the success of the 2011 programs. Compared to 2010, the one day residential e-cycling event volume in 2011 increased 315%, a number that Hussion attributes to improved PR and branding, logistical efficiency, and the relatively new statewide electronics recycling legislation. Other key employees that contributed to the success of the program include Kim Beckett, Logistic Coordinator; Steve Dewey, Director of Sales & Marketing; and Steve Ebner, Sunnking's truck driver and team leader during the e-cycling events.

"It's amazing to see the amount of people who line up for these e-cycling events, and to hear how grateful they are that we provide this service free of charge. They want to do the right thing and prevent harmful materials from finding their way into our local communities; our e-scrap recycling events provide that opportunity," says Zachary Hussion. "It's an uphill battle, and unfortunately, many people still don't know that you can recycle your old electronics, or just don't care. My job is to inform and educate NYS residents about the recycling opportunities available and to change the mindset of those that don't want to be bothered with it. I'm extremely happy with the growth from 2010 to 2011 and look forward to increasing our recycling volumes even more in 2012."

The e-scrap recycling collection event season may slow down during the winter months, but it can be expected it to bounce back in early spring. Visit www.sunnking.com/events for a list of upcoming events, or go to www.sunnking.com/escrap-drop-off to find a permanent e-scrap drop off site near you.
