  • (1888PressRelease) April 18, 2012 - Binghamton, NY-SunMaxx Solar, a leading, vertically integrated manufacturer of solar thermal systems and components, is pleased to announce the installation of a solar thermal system at Chenango House on the Pathfinder Village Community property in Oneonta, NY.

SunMaxx Solar in conjunction with CNR Energy installed a 10-panel commercial , closed loop solar hot water system at the Pathfinder Village Community house, which was designed to help move the residence toward a greener future by producing 400 gallons of hot water per day. Pathfinder Village is a residential community that serves 94 individuals living with Down syndrome and other extensive medical needs and disabilities.

The solar collectors, which face south, produce up to 90 percent of the home's hot water during summer months, and about half during the winter. The solar panels on the roof heat a propylene glycol mixture, which in turn is transferred to pre-heat water in two 120 gallon holding tanks. The tanks feed two electrical hot water heaters, which raise the water temperature to 110 degrees for residential use. The system has reduced household electric demand for hot water by 50 to 70 percent.

Dan Osborn, Pathfinder Village's Senior Director of Ancillary and Quality Support Services comments to the Daily Star newspaper in Oneonta, NY, "Chenango House is open 24-7, and is home for ten of our oldest residents and those who have extensive medical needs. On average, there are five to seven loads of laundry washed each day, the dishwasher runs four or five times daily, and hot water is used regularly for bathing, cleaning and medical uses. The home's extensive hot water needs represent a challenge for any hot water system, and we're very pleased with the performance of the solar hot water system so far."

Adam Farrell, CEO of SunMaxx Solar comments, "The Solar install at Pathfinder Village further aid's in the property's green energy initiatives, and we are thrilled that SunMaxx Solar's industry leading products were able to help the special needs of the residents at Chenango House ."

SunMaxx Solar aims to build a sustainable future for our global community and is proud that the company's installations greatly contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. In today's energy consuming world, SunMaxx offers world-class solar energy and renewable products, striving to meet the increasing need for alternative energy sources.
