  • (1888PressRelease) December 14, 2011 - Criminal justice software specialist, STL Technologies' LiBiS.net (LiBiS) evidential Drink/Drive system will be invaluable in the fight against Drink Drivers over the 2011/12 Festive Season. With increasing pressure on police resources, the standardised procedure which delivers robust results electronically, is vital for UK Police Forces at this time of year.

ACPO statistics show that 76% of all breath tests last year were undertaken between December 2010 and January 2011. Despite the exceptional weather conditions and Forces reporting a significant reduction in the number of people using the UK's roads, the numbers tested and those who were positive were higher than in previous years.

The demands on officer time to process so many breath tests (169,838 people were stopped and tested during last year's Winter Drink Drive Campaign), places considerable pressure on the traffic and custody teams. STL Technologies' LiBiS directs the officer to the relevant decision point ensuring compliance with the MG DD procedure and improving data quality.

Drink Driving cases may be contested, but LiBiS helps eliminate doubt about human error. Paul Bennett, Inspector, Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) said: "I believe the LiBiS system saves about 30 minutes when completing each MG DD process. Officers are presented with only the relevant information at each decision point so there are fewer risks of making mistakes and having to start again."

Richard Perkins, Sales & Marketing Director, STL Technologies said: "With increasing pressure on police time and with so many Drink/Driving stoppages during the Festive season, LiBiS.net saves time processing the MG DD procedure, supports consistent adherence to process, provides a detailed audit trail of the procedure and delivers robust cases electronically to the CPS."

LiBiS also provides statistics at the press of a button. Rosemary Leech, Inspector, Traffic Division, PSNI adds: "As well as ensuring the DD process is adhered to, LiBiS provides us with access to key data and invaluable management information. We are able to generate statistics around the number and type of incident which we use as a comparison against previous years and we can also create detailed profiles for typical offenders - including age, sex and ethnicity. LiBiS also enables us to respond promptly and accurately to media enquiries. Over the years we have noted significant seasonal variations and in our experience over 80% of Drink/Drive incidents are during the winter festive season."
