Steady optimism in lacklustre markets, says expert

  • (1888PressRelease) December 24, 2011 - Interactive Investor's Mike McCudden says that considering the time of year, there is a fair amount of activity in retail investments. However, with volumes still being low overall, the markets are left open to sudden corrections.

    While there has been a small rise in optimism, particularly in the US, Mr McCudden says the threat of further downgrades in the credit rating of eurozone countries is still putting the recovery at risk.

    "The spotlight on [Italian Prime Minister] Mario Monti seeking final approval for his £28bn austerity package should serve as a cold reminder that this story is far from over," he added.

    Data from the Association of Investment Companies recently suggested that specialist asset classes performed the strongest in 2011, and remain the most attractive option for many investors.
