  • (1888PressRelease) February 26, 2012 - After two exciting days, the Makurdi leg of auditions for the 2012 edition of Star Quest, Nigeria's first and only band-based music talent hunt/reality TV show, has come to an end.

    The event, which was held in Benue Hotels, Makurdi, on February 21-22, 2012, saw a horde of the best musical talents from the state as well as other neighbouring states trooping in to audition for a ticket to the grand audition of Star Quest in Lagos.

    The aspiring participants auditioned before a panel of judges comprising three of the top artistes and musicians in the country: KC Presh, Waje and Paul 'Play' Dairo. Also present during the event was ace actor and model, Gideon Okeke of the hit Television series, Tinsel.

    Speaking after the conclusion of the auditions, Mr. Obabiyi Fagade, Brand Manager, Star, who expressed satisfaction at the turn out during the audition stated that Star Quest was an opportunity for aspiring musicians to showcase their talents. "The auditions in Makurdi have been impressive. We had a very good turn out here and we are pleased at the response," he said.

    According to Fagade, Star Quest was in town to discover the next Bongos Ikwue, Tuface Idibia and Zakky Adzee. "You know, Benue State is renowned for producing some of the greatest music stars in the country like Bongos Ikwue, Tuface Idibia and Zakky Adzee, among others. We want to continue the legacy by bringing out great musical talents from this state to be a part of the Star Quest winning band," he explained.

    Also speaking was Paul 'Play' Dairo, who thanked the people of Benue State for the warm reception afforded the Star Quest team. He said: "It has been a wonderful experience. We didn't really expect to get the warm reception that we got from the people of the town. It is really encouraging. I want to say thank you to everybody from this state that made this happen.

    Successful candidates during the auditions in Makurdi have automatically qualified for the grand auditions which takes place in Lagos. They will be joined by qualifiers from the other regional auditions in Enugu, Benin and Lagos.

    In all, 55 qualifiers will emerge from the four regional auditions in Makurdi, Enugu, Benin and Lagos. The qualifiers will go head to head for the 36 tickets into the Star Fameland.

    Inside the Fameland, the 36 will be split into 6 bands comprising six members each. Each band will be groomed by top music professionals to enhance their performance.

    The six bands will go head to head as they perform various genres of music in the Star Fameland. The winning band will emerge via audience SMS votes.

    The winning band will get a recording contract worth N7.5m, N3.6m (to be shared by the six band members) and a one year accommodation in a choice location in Lagos. The accommodation will also come with a studio stocked with the latest musical instrument.

    The winning band will also perform in two of Nigeria's biggest musical concerts, Star Trek and Star Mega Jam.
