  • (1888PressRelease) July 29, 2010 - With the advent of SPX, footwear manufacturing in India has shown tremendous increase. SPX offers the latest technology, innovative and cost effective methods and the chance of small and medium footwear subcontracting industries to get the opportunity to tie up with foreign companies.

The Industrial subcontracting and partnership exchange or SPX was launched in June 2007 under the 'consolidated project for SME Development in India', one of the most innovative projects of UNIDO in India, financed by the Italian government. SPX India started from the manufacturing sectors such as auto component, leather and footwear selected by the consolidated project in co-ordination with the DC-MSMEs, Govt. of India. The main aim of SPX is to help international companies find competent subcontractors who can manufacture and process spare parts and equipments. Their main objective is to help these small subcontractors get in touch with the international companies and acquire more business globally and thereby increase productivity. SPX is actually a matchmaking center for industrial subcontracting and further helps in the partnership of buyers and sellers. They have created their database after personally visiting more than 650 small and medium sub subcontractors of India. It includes industrial subcontracting Chennai India, footwear components, Pune and Gurgaon, Indian automobile components Gurgaon, Pune Chennai and leather industry of Chennai, Ranipet and Ambur districts.

When we speak of Indian industries, footwear manufacturing in India is one of the oldest trades of the Indian economy, especially the leather footwear industry; which has also provided employment to almost 2.5 million people in the country. Indian footwear and footwear components are in great demand in the international market and maximum of India's revenues are generated through the export of footwear, mainly leather footwear. SPX has created centres of excellence and associations such as footwear association in Pune, Chennai and Gurgaon. The intervention of SPX has introduced new technology for footwear manufacturing in India. With partners such as ISF, the Indian footwear industry is in high demand in the international market. The Indian Shoe Federation or ISF, an association that has more than 100 top shoe making companies mainly from Tamil Nadu, is the partner in the project for cluster twining operations in the footwear sector. ISF has always followed practices that are transparent, innovative, reliable, fast and cost effective. ISF members represent almost 40% value of footwear exports from India. The main duties of ISF include promoting, assisting, strengthening and exploring global markets, organizing buyer and seller meets, providing valuable information to the members and coordinating or keeping in constant touch with government agencies. The combination of SPX and ISF has taken the footwear manufacturing in India to new heights.

Apart from this the Indian footwear components manufacturers association (IFCOMA) offers valuable services where the manufacture of footwear components is concerned. The main aim of IFCOMA is to bring all manufactures of footwear components of Pune, Gurgaon, etc under one roof and explain to them the importance of manufacturing quality footwear components that meet international standards.

SPX has targeted the footwear association in Pune, Chennai, and Gurgaon since they have more potential for business opportunities with foreign partners. The main partners of SPX are:

Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India
    Confederation of Indian Industries (CII)
    Indian Shoe Federation (ISF)
Indian Finished Leather Manufacturers and Exporters Association (IFLMEA)
    Ambattur Industrial Estate Association
