Southern Ocean Medical Center to Host 12th Annual Men's Health Night

  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - Manahawkin, NJ - On Wednesday, March 23, men in southern Ocean County will take advantage of free health screenings, physician-sponsored lectures, and a host of interactive educational displays featuring information on Southern Ocean Medical Center services for men. It's all part of Southern Ocean Medical Center's 12th Annual Men's Health Night on March 23 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 pm. on the first floor of the medical center.

    The free health screenings will include:

    - Blood Pressure

    - Bone Densitometry

    - Colon Rectal

    - Pulmonary Function

    - Blood Sugar

    - Foot

    - Skin Cancer

    The program will also offer a Lipid Profile, which includes total cholesterol and triglycerides and blood sugar. Participants who wish to have a Lipid Profile need to come to the Southern Ocean Medical Center Beach Plum Conference Center to have their blood drawn two days before the event on Monday morning, March 21 from 7:00 a.m. -9:00 am. The blood draw is held in the morning, since participants need to fast for 12 hours prior to having their blood drawn. (Participants may have medication and water as needed.) The results of the Lipid Profile will be available during Men's Health Night.

    Free health lectures by Southern Ocean Medical Center physicians will also be offered during the event. At 7:10 p.m. Southern Ocean Medical Center Urologist Charles Fernicola, M.D. will speak on "Prostate Health." At 7:40 Southern Ocean Medical Center Oncologist Evan Naylor, M.D. will present "Skin Cancer Update." At 8:15 Southern Ocean Medical Center Neurologist Tommasina Papa-Rugino, M.D. will speak on Neuropathy.

    Men's Health Night will feature educational displays from community agencies, and information on Southern Ocean Medical Center services.
