  • Corpus Christi, TX (1888PressRelease) November 22, 2017 - As the season comes to a close, short track car racer Dustin Butcher looks back on a year well spent on and off the dirt. On Saturday, Oct. 28th, South Texas Speedway held the Season Championship in Corpus Christi, TX and Butcher’s final points standing for 2017 left him leading the Limited Modified scoreboard by 3 points. Sponsored by Church’s Chicken® through franchisees John and Connie Trask since 2013, Butcher attributes much of the fun and success to the support of those around him.

“Of course there’s the racing, the speed and the adrenaline, but it’s the fan experience, that I really enjoy,” shared Butcher. “Seeing the people, the kids, in the stands after the races having a good time and enjoying what they see... The smiles and the friendships we have with people like Connie and John… That was all built through racing.”

Butcher went into Saturday’s Season Championship leading in points on the track. Early last month, he took home the Limited Modified win on the first night of Chase for the Championship at South Texas Speedway in his hometown of Corpus Christi. Butcher also welcomed his son to the sport this year, who has had several wins himself.

Racing is a family sport for Butcher, who grew up watching his uncle race in the 80s. In addition to racing, Butcher and his family are also very involved in the local community. “Dustin and his family are just wonderful. They do a lot for the community,” said Connie Trask, Church’s Chicken franchisee and Butcher’s sponsor. “At the beginning of every school year they collect funds and provide school supplies for the kids. They’re heavily involved in the community.”

“I like to stay as active as possible, so I’ve done multiple car shows with the race cars and I’ve had my fair share of wearing the chicken suit to have some fun with the Church’s® crew,” said Butcher. “I’ve also worked with the hockey teams. My kids are into sports, so we are always somewhere doing something.”
