  • San Antonio, TX (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2014 - BASH: Bexar/Atascosa Secular Homeschoolers is a relatively new home school group that was formed in April, 2014 to serve the secular homeschool community in Bexar and Atascosa Counties, focusing on south San Antonio. The north San Antonio Secular co-op ACASH: Alamo City Awesome Secular Homeschool Co-op, merged with BASH so they could expand into the north side of San Antonio and provide education enrichment, field trips, contests, expos and festivals to all of Bexar County, Atascosa County and surrounding areas. There will now be both north and south side park days and co-op opportunities with all other homeschool events being shared. Melody Templeton, leader of ACASH joins the BASH Board of Directors as the North Co-Op Coordinator.

BASH membership has grown steadily and they had a successful premier month, enjoying a field trip to the Majestic Theater and a "New to Homeschool" monthly meeting. They are kicking off their second month with multiple field trips, a "Curriculum Show and Tell" for their monthly meeting and their regular park days. The division of the south co-op recently secured their location and is planning their fall semester. North co-op is still in the planning stages and is expected to have everything in place to launch their fall semester in September.

"We are so excited to join forces with ACASH. Secular homeschoolers do not have many support groups that provide the extent of opportunities we do." says Kathleen Dougherty, President of BASH. "As such, we have tried to have a cooperative relationship with the north side's group and it was a natural evolution that we join."

Melody Templeton, ACASH leader, was equally pleased. "We bring different aspects to the table to form a well rounded program for both north and south secular homeschoolers. Even though our park days and co-ops will be in separate locations and will be structured differently, there is still the opportunity for anyone who wants to participate to attend both." Ms. Templeton is referring to the plan to have north and south park days and co-ops on different days so if there is interest, BASH members could realistically attend both.
