  • (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2010 - Dubai - SonicWALL, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions as part of its mid-year security assessment, tracked leading computer threats worldwide using its Global Response Intelligence Defense (GRID) network. SonicWALL found that reputation management via social networking, growth of borderless business as well as use of virtualization and cloud-based computing would cause a surge in targeted security threats in 2010.

"With continued network security innovations, SonicWALL helps corporations stop over three million malware attempts, 400 million intrusions, and 400 million spam e-mails. Our research is part of an on-going mission to dynamically adapt our products and services to enhance security for our customers in future," said Boris Yanovsky, Vice President of Software Engineering at SonicWALL.

Its most significant findings include an increase in intrusions, phishing and malware threats and the growing use of certain features of social networking sites to introduce malware. "New malware attacks are likely to affect smart phones, VoIP and Mac, social media and Adobe's Acrobat Reader. With the sophistication of today's attacks, companies need to anticipate that heuristics, algorithms and behavioral analysis will be needed to supplement security signatures that corporations receive with proactive analysis," added Shahnawaz Sheikh, Regional Sales Manager, SonicWALL Middle East and Africa.

In response to these ever evolving threats, SonicWALL provides a suite of networking security solutions, and has recently launched the new SonicPoint-Ni and SonicPoint-Ne. Designed for enterprises, SMBs and distributed wireless networks, the new devices are 802.11n compliant dual-band single radio wireless secure access points that integrate seamlessly into the existing SonicWALL TZ, Network Security Appliance (NSA) and E-Class NSA product lines.

They provide Clean Wireless connections through integrated Gateway Anti-Virus, Intrusion Prevention, Anti-Spyware and Content Filtering, scanning all traffic for malware and inappropriate website requests. The solution supports wireless encryption standards, wireless intrusion prevention services and rogue access point detection. Moreover, the new SonicPoint Series extends Next-Generation Firewall capabilities such as Application Intelligence and Control to the distributed wireless network.

The company has also announced that its SonicOS 5.5.1, for the Network Security Appliance (NSA) firewall platform, has been certified as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Ready by the IPv6 Forum. SonicWALL platforms that are now IPv6 Ready include the E7500, E6500, E5500, NSA 5000, NSA 4500, NSA 3500, NSA 2400 and NSA 240.

"Building upon recent news that our NSA product line achieved the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ certification, the IPv6 certification announcement reinforces our commitment to meet stringent international standards," said Patrick Sweeney, Vice President of Product Management, SonicWALL.

Continued advancement of its network security products have led to SonicWALL being awarded 'SonicWALL Firewall Maximum Score in Hardware Group Review' by SC Magazine. In a roundup of 12 Gateway Unified Threat Management devices and firewalls, the company's offerings received the maximum score possible by SC Magazine. Called 'excellent value for money for large enterprise,' the SonicWALL Network Security Appliance (NSA) E7500 received maximum marks in all seven categories including Features, Ease of Use, Performance, Documentation, Support, Value for Money and Overall.

The SonicWALL appliance scored a higher combined rating (across all categories) against SC Magazine's criteria than competition from CheckPoint, Fortinet and Panda, received full marks across all selection categories.
"SonicWALL is known to engineer outstanding security solutions that give customers the choice and flexibility to work without being restricted by technology," said Florian Malecki, EMEA Enterprise Product Marketing Manager at SonicWALL. "This review is testament to the hard work put in by our engineering team. Being awarded the maximum score by SC Magazine validates SonicWALL's solutions and the strength of our offerings."
