  • (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2011 - Dubai - According to a study by Business Monitor International, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) spending on IT products is expected to reach AED12.85 billion (US$3.5 billion) by 2011 and grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 8 percent from 2011 to 2015. Subsequently, the UAE is also a leader in social media penetration. A study by Dubai School of Government found that 45.38 percent of the UAE's population uses Facebook, 18.48 percent of the population being new users. UAE users are also the most balanced in age, with 55 percent of all locally based users over 30 . This means that the majority of working professionals in the country are connected and active in the social media scene.

"Modern-day empowered employees use smart-phones and tablets to work from remote locations. We are a truly mobile workforce," said Florian Malecki, SonicWALL's senior product marketing manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), speaking at the IDC Security Road show 2011 in Dubai. SonicWALL also highlighted its take on 'Empowering Your Organization with IT Security' across the IDC Road Shows in Riyadh, Kuwait and Qatar.

Employees use these new technologies to engage with their colleagues, customers and business partners. "Web 2.0 and mobile applications, while empowering, also redefine the risks to IT security. These include malware from mobiles and desktops and security breaches, intentional and unintentional, by employees with access to confidential information," emphasized Malecki.

With the risk of confidential data leakage ever increasing and the old generation of firewalls is ill-equipped to handle these new threats, SonicWALL presented its next-generation firewalls that offer real time traffic, highest performance networks delivering full application intelligence, control, and real time visualisation and inspection to stop threats and prevent data leakage with no latency.

"We believe that today, a very low percentage of corporate networks are secured using next-generation firewalls. Our aim this year is to educate the industry and gear them to cater to SuperMassive™ E10000 Series of Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW). This would be executed through our 'tech days' specifically focused on training our partners on the advantages of adopting the SuperMassive Series. The targeted industries across the region would primarily be Banking, Telecom, Finance and Educational sector," elaborated Shahnawaz Sheikh, Regional Director, Middle East and Africa for SonicWALL.

SonicWALL, the leading provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions offers these technologies to SMB and large enterprises. SuperMassive Se-ries makes next-generation security a reality for even the largest and highest per-formance networks delivering full application control and content security that eliminates threats entering the network. Each model of the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10000 Series is upgradeable, future-proofing security infrastructure investments as network bandwidth and security requirements in-crease.
