The project involved streamlining the client's Merchant Boarding process which was unable to keep pace with ever increasing customer base and constantly increasing rate of new merchants boarding the system.

    The client is an electronic payment processing unit of a leading bank with diversified financial services. This unit serves over 1,50,000 merchants with debit and credit payment processing with an annual credit and debit card volume of nearly $250 billion. A standard merchant boarding process includes AMEX, Customizations, Deployment, Installation and Activation. Business rules guide a deal through different steps of the process to the final step of Activation or Cancellation.

    The client's existing system was not only sluggish but had frequent manual or technical errors, offered low visibility on the status and had no escalation mechanism in case of delays and impediments. The client approached SoftPath Technologies to streamline the merchant boarding process end-to-end, reduce the merchant boarding process time from 2 weeks to 2-3 days and create a built-in notification/escalation mechanism to flag bottlenecks.

    SoftPath's technical team worked with the client's project team to implement a BPM solution for the Merchant Boarding process. The process discovery phase was done using IBM® Blueworks Live® which was followed by Functional and Technical Gap Analysis. The client's Web Services Infrastructure was integrated with the BPM Tool with the BPM implementation done iteratively using multiple playbacks.

    The implemented solution accelerated the Merchant Boarding process through automated infrastructure, increased business resiliency through proactive error handling and notification mechanism, aligned operational capabilities with business strategies through stronger technical infrastructure and improved customer service levels.
