  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) July 28, 2011 - On September 28th through 30th, 2011, the Dallas Police Department will host the fourth Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference to discuss the use of social media in the context of Public Order, Social Activism and the interaction of Old Media with New Media.

    The SMILE Conference brings together one of the largest assemblages of law enforcement professionals in the nation to address the use of, and responses to, social media. The SMILE Conference will also emphasize the changing role between law enforcement, social activists and traditional media.

    The first day of the conference, attendees will hear from law enforcement and communication professionals about social media strategy and issues pertaining to community outreach policy. Thursday will offer a day devoted to topics covering hacktivists' interference with investigations, maintaining public order, and the changing role between law enforcement, social activists and traditional media.

    A town hall meeting for registered attendees of the conference will be held on September 29, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The town hall will be highly spirited, interactive and wrapped in a social media context. It will provide everyone with an opportunity to further explore and discuss at length issues concerning social media and law enforcement that could not be fully addressed during the plenary session.
