  • (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - Smartlogic CEO Jeremy Bentley and Sarah Ann Berndt from the Johnson Space Center (JSC), will together lead the discussion on semantic technology and its impact on semantic information architecture at the 2011 Semantic Technology Conference (SemTech), to be held in San Francisco on June 5-9, 2011.

In their presentation entitled 'Enterprise Semantics and Tales of the Unexpected', Jeremy Bentley and Sarah Ann Berndt will be talking about the implementation of Semaphore at NASA and the challenges of building an information management infrastructure that accurately represents more than 50 years of manned space flight.

Jeremy Bentley is the founder and CEO of Smartlogic, the software company that specialises in semantics. Smartlogic's product Semaphore is an Enterprise Semantic Platform that augments traditional information systems like search, content management and business workflow engines by adding advanced content classification, metadata and navigation capabilities to deliver a more complete enterprise information management experience.

Sarah Berndt, Johnson Space Center Taxonomist, ITAMS Contract, has a background in education and content management as well as interface development and design. Since becoming the JSC Taxonomist, her focus is developing effective methodologies for utilizing the taxonomy, ontology and thesaurus in manner that accurately and consistently represents content, while remaining valuable to the end user.

Together, they will be discussing educational and relevant lessons learned throughout the project; including Smartlogic's Semaphore Enterprise Semantic Platform used at JSC to complement the Google Search Appliance.
Jeremy Bentley explains, "NASA Johnson Space Center utilizes semantic systems to capitalize and protect the research, development and accomplishments of yesterday, while maintaining the flexibility needed for the evolving information environment of today."

He continues, "The challenges of building an infrastructure that accurately represents over 50 years of manned space flight are as varied as the multiple domains it envelopes. Semantics help map the domain and contribute to a roadmap for the future as well as provide a return on value for the investment in information management, which cannot be accomplished with traditional systems alone.

The integration of semantic technology and information architecture brings significant opportunities for success for the organization as well as its information workers."

SemTech 2011 will be held at the Hilton, Union Square, in downtown San Francisco on June 5-9, 2011 with the Smartlogic presentation 'Enterprise Semantics and Tales of the Unexpected' taking place on June 9 at 10:10 am.

    About Smartlogic - www.smartlogic.com

Smartlogic is a software company that specializes in semantics. Smartlogic's Semaphore is an Enterprise Semantic Platform that augments traditional information management systems like search, content management and business workflow engines by adding advanced content classification, metadata and navigation capabilities to deliver a more complete enterprise information management experience. Smartlogic clients are organizations across the globe who value their information assets and Semaphore helps these organisations derive meaning and value from their information by adding a semantic layer to their existing systems as well as use Semaphore to mitigate the risks associated with those same information assets. Semaphore does this by capturing an organisation's subjects and topics into models, and then puts these models to work.  More than 200 companies like NASA, Bank of America, AutoDesk, Occidental Petroleum, Ford Foundation, Pitney Bowes, The National Health Service, UBS, ABN AMRO, The Office of Public Sector Information, Yell.com and others use Smartlogic today.
