  • (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2010 - Ideal for precious metal investors, the coins are struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in four weights - 1/2oz, 1oz, 10oz and 1 kilo.

Each new coin portrays an adult and young koala resting in the fork of a tree. It is the fifth design since the introduction of the popular series in 2007, which has also attracted interest from collectors for its artistic merit.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coins depict the Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

No mintage limit applies to 2011-dated Australian Koala silver bullion coins. However, production will close at the end of 2011 when The Perth Mint will declare each coin's official mintage.

The Perth Mint's Australian Koala series is part of the Australia's official Gold and Silver Bullion Coin Program for investors. Other 2011 coins in the Program, comprising the Australian Kangaroo, Australian Kookaburra and Australian Lunar series, went on sale on 14 September.
