  • (1888PressRelease) February 17, 2011 - Renowned Shropshire artist, Jenny Gunning, is pleased to announce the acceptance of two pieces of her work to the prestigious 'Royal Society of British Arts Annual Exhibition' at the Mall galleries in London.

The exhibition encourages artists to submit their work to the exhibition, yet only a select few will be chosen to have their art displayed. This is the second time Jenny has had her work accepted by the gallery.

The exhibition will be showcasing two of Jenny's hand-printed etchings, both depicting the magnificent George Washington Bridge in New York.

Jenny's inspiration for etching the bridge developed during numerous visits to New York where she admired the grandiose and beauty of the structure.

She said, "The stunning architecture challenged my artistic ability to draw and etch in order to produce the different tones and lines in a piece of steel. The whole thing completely challenged me."

The etchings were printed using a hand-built, printing machine that was designed by her father, internationally renowned printmaker David Gunning, thirty years previously.

The majority of etchers today choose to use copper plates, so for those intrigued by the use of other etching methods, the exhibition is offering a unique opportunity to admire the accentuated blacks and whites that are achieved through the use of a steel etching press.

The 'Royal Society of British Arts Annual Exhibition' opens on the 2nd of March at 10am and runs until Saturday the 12th of March at 1pm. Standard admission is £2.50 and concessions are £1.50. Free admission is available to FBA friends, Art fund members, Westminster Res-card holders and under 16s.

As well as examples of printmaking, the exhibition will also display sculptures and paintings from all medias.

For those interested in further examples of printmaking techniques, Ironbridge Fine Arts & Framing, located in Ironbridge in Shropshire, displays a large collection of work from local artists, including some fantastic examples of printmaking.

Jenny herself has a degree in printmaking and upon leaving University, used her entrepreneurial drive to set up and run Ironbridge Fine Arts & Framing.

The premises also stock and sell a full range of Gunning Art Printing Presses, all of which have been handmade by David Gunning.
