  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2011 - The law firm of Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP, is expanding its expertise for energy industry clients with the additions of oil and gas attorneys W. Phillip Whitcomb and D.J. Beaty in the firm's Dallas office.

    Mr. Whitcomb, who is Of Counsel, and Mr. Beaty, a firm Associate, are joining firm Partner Martin Averill to help grow Shackelford, Melton & McKinley's existing oil and gas practice.

    Mr. Whitcomb joins the firm from AH&PC Advisors in Dallas. His practice focuses on business transactions, corporate securities, M&A, and private equity work for oil and gas, renewable energy, information technology and real estate clients. His work includes developing and executing strategic business plans through acquisitions and divestitures, public and private debt and equity financings, strategic alliance and joint venture arrangements, and complex service and outsourcing agreements.

    He has served in various legal and corporate development positions with Electronic Data Systems Corporation and Centex Homes. He also served as a Managing Director at JMP Securities in the Real Estate Group. Mr. Whitcomb earned his law degree from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1979.

    Mr. Beaty joins the firm from Dallas' Quilling, Selander, Lownds, Winslett & Moser, P.C. His practice is focused on upstream and midstream oil and gas law, including transactions and litigation related to leasing, asset acquisitions and divestitures, exploration and development, joint-ownership matters, and product purchase arrangements.

    He earned his law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2008, and his LL.M., with an emphasis in energy and natural resources, from the SMU Dedman School of Law in 2009.
